New bowls

This part of my gallery is for more unusual one off bowls, other bowls plates and silver rimmed quaiches can be found using the toolbar at the top.

These bowls are from a gorgeous 250 year old beech tree. All quite unique. Size and price underneath each image. P&P is £7.50 per order for UK email for quote overseas.

I have a couple of larger quaichs yet to be photographed but very similar to the one in this photo. These are 5 1/2" at the rim and hold about half a bottle so are communal quaichs. The perfect thing for a wedding gift or for any special occasion to pass round and share together. They are £225

I have some really nice beech bowls at the moment and am about half way through a very large old beech tree from Sheffield. My standard porringers are particularly nice I use one of these for my breakfast every day with a Galician style spoon. The bowls are 6" and about 7.5" over the handles. They are £33 each.

These two are the same size in crisp white sycamore, a traditional timber for domestic bowls particularly in Wales. £33 ONE SOLD

This is a mazer but without the silver rim £33 a lovely honey coloured sycamore. SOLD

Some big "Irish pattern" bowls now the ones I have at the moment are 7.5" beech and £37 this first one has amazing movement in the rim from where the dark patch shrank more in the drying.SOLD

3 new mazers all in sycamore (Acer Pseudopltanus) the darker ones have been dyed with a nutural food safe dye to make a pleasant contrast with the silver. Silver rims are hallmarked Sheffield.

These quaichs were all sold but I liked them so am leaving the pic here for a bit.

I have not had time to make any of these recently but this is a very special nesting set of bowls all cut from one piece of wood one inside the other.

This particular nest is made of alder and is the one I was photographed turning in Country Living magazine for the Balvenie Artisan of the Year award. The picture below shows the size of them £455

All the bowls from this post were sold but I am leaving this set showing for a while just because I am proud of them.

6 And finally, this is perhaps the most special piece I have offered for sale on the web. This set of bowls was turned from a single piece of wonderful spalted beech. I turned it on 15th Dec 2009 51 years to the day after George Lailey "the last bowlturner" died. You can see how it was made in this video of me making the first of my George Lailey commemorative sets, I decided not to sell the first set, it means too much to me.

The diameters of these bowls are 15", 11", 8", and 5", whilst a stunning and unique collectors piece I do hope they go to someone who will use them too. They will improve with age and use.
